REPORT: U18s Held to Draw by Swindon

Fabio Lopes on target in 1-1 draw

11 January 2020

Fabio Lopes' second-half strike saw United's  U18s held to a 1-1 draw against Swindon Town in the Youth Alliance League this morning at the Training Ground.

United had the better of the first half without finding the breakthrough and continued to create chances after the break with left winger Connor Ferguson going close before Swindon broke the deadlock against the run of play early in the second-half  when they hit Oxford on the counter attack before a clinical finish into the bottom corner.

United hit back for the equaliser they deserved courtesy of a long-range effort from Lopes that caught the ‘keeper off guard and crept into the bottom corner to level the game.

Winger Tyler Goodrham had a late effort that went just over the Swindon crossbar but despite sustained pressure late on it wasn't to be for the U's who now face Preston North End in the FA Youth Cup at the Kassam Stadium on Wednesday (7pm kick off).

UNITED Evans, Gardner (Johnson), Elechi, Sole, Milton, Jones, Goodrham, Chambers-Parillon, Ferguson (Crook), Stevens, Lopes

Unused Subs: Edwards, Grant, Smith
