It was a key day for three young men today as they embarked on what they hope will be a successful career as professional footballers.
Nial Hodgkins, James Dobson and Adam Bowerman all reported for their first day as Oxford United scholars this morning, a day of nerves, excitement and hopes.
Nial, from Abingdon, is a striker who has already scored goals for the under 19 side, James, from Stone near Aylesbury, is a winger while Adam from Cassington can play up front or on the wing.
All three joined youth team coach Les Taylor for their first training session this morning. Les told us:
"They are all good players and have been with us through the age groups in our Centre of Excellence. They have earned the right to join us for the scholarship programme and have a fantastic opportunity ahead of them. It's all new to them; they will be training every day, combining that with their studies, and it's a new environment so they have to adapt quickly. They all worked hard this morning and know that if they work hard, listen and learn, then they will get an opportunity here."
James spoke for all three players when he said:
"We were all a bit nervous and excited but all we've ever wanted to do is play football and we can't wait to get started. The club has given us a great chance and we are all determined to do all we can to take that opportunity."
