The U's completed their second deadline day signing this afternoon with the arrival of Luton Town striker Tom Craddock for an undisclosed fee.
Tom joins Doncaster midfielder Josh Payne in signing for the club prior to tonight's transfer deadline and will be available for selection as United take on Morecambe this coming Saturday.
A product of the Middlesbrough youth system, Tom's first taste of competitive football came with a short lived loan at Wrexham where he scored in his only start for the then-League Two club. A successful loan spell at Hartlepool United followed in 2008 before the striker signed for Luton Town on an initial one-month loan in October of that year. Three goals in four games led to his deal being extended before the Hatters landed him on a permanent deal in January 2009. Tom finished the 08/09 campaign with twelve goals including a strike in the club's Johnstone's Paint Trophy victory at Wembley Stadium, while he finished top scorer for the club last season with twenty-four goals in all competitions.
A quick and tricky forward, Chris Wilder was delighted to have landed the 23-year-old prior to the transfer window slamming shut. He told us:
"Tom is a player who we have admired for some time. He has pace, an eye for a goal and bags of ability. He has been a consistent scorer for the last two seasons and has done it at this level before. He is hungry for success and a great age and we think he will do very well for us."
Tom's very first interview as a United player will be available shortly in Yellow Player.
