Full Steam Ahead For Stanley

Posted on: Thu 26 Aug 2010

United get back to business after their midweek trip to West Ham this Saturday as they take on Accrington Stanley.

The game represents the first time in history that the two clubs have met, and with fans and pundits around the country sure to be keeping an eye on events the match is set up to be an entertaining and well-contested affair.

Ben Purkiss is set to continue at right back in place of Damian Batt , but there will be no place in the squad for Chelsea teenager Danny Philliskirk after the U's decided not to extend his initial one-month loan deal. Chris Wilder said:

"Danny is a very talented footballer and hopefully the experience here has been good for him. He has had limited chances here due to the fact that the team has played so well but his attitude has been great and we hope he has benefitted from a spell with us. We certainly wish him well for the future."

However there are selection headaches for the manager  with Jack Midson and Matt Green hoping to return to the starting line-up after finding themselves on the bench in midweek. Simon Clist and Richie Baker will also be hopeful of forcing their way into contention after both impressed as subs in east London.

Rhys Day remains unavailable for selection as the Welsh centre half continues his recovery from injury, though the U's have an otherwise full squad to choose from.

A full preview ahead of Saturday's action will appear right here tomorrow.
