United have completed the signing of defender Harry Worley.
The six foot four centre half began his career at Stockport County but was snapped up by Chelsea at the age of 16, moving to the Premier League champions for a six-figure fee and being named among the substitutes for the 2007 Community Shield clash with Manchester United. With first team opportunities limited at Stamford Bridge the centre half had loans at Doncaster Rovers, Carlisle and Leicester City before signing a permanent deal with the Foxes in 2008.After a short loan at Luton the defender then joined Crewe last season, making 22 starts and scoring once.
Having joined the U's for their recent pre-season tour of Scotland, Harry joins the club on a three-year deal ahead of the club's League Two campaign.
"I'm really excited to have signed for Oxford United," Worley told OUFC.co.uk. "I followed the club a bit last season and I know that there's a real buzz going on around the place so I'm happy to be a part of that. I know that I'll face a tough battle to get into the side but I'm prepared for that and look forward to showing people what I can do."
Chris Wilder was similarly enthusiastic, adding: "We're pleased to have signed Harry on a contract for the next three years. He's got a good CV and a fantastic pedigree that we feel will stand him in good stead. He's got plenty of experience of high-level reserve football and also competitive league matches from going out on loan but at 21 both Harry and myself feel that it's important for him to put down some roots. At six-foot-four he's a big, strong lad and is eager to learn and develop further and with the people that we have at the club we're hopeful that we can help him to progress even further."
