OxVox and Oxford United are pleased to announce plans for a commemorative project that will see the Kassam Stadium embrace key moments from Oxford United's past.
The South Stand will be decorated with a number of permanent Yellow boards displaying vital dates in the club's history.The dates chosen will mark all of United's promotion seasons including 2010, the Milk Cup victory, the year of election to the Football League, and the year of the club's foundation.Years where the club won silverware will be marked by silhouettes of the trophies.
The central point of the display will feature the words 'Oxford United Football Club' flanked by the club's crest on either side.The boards will be placed on the central divider of the stand between the executive boxes and the upper tier. The project has been designed and funded by OxVox and has gained the club's full support. It is hoped that it will be unveiled at the U's first competitive home game of the season against Bristol Rovers.
OxVox committee member Colin Barson said: "As a member of the OxVox Committee I am delighted that we have been able to provide this, very graphic, addition to the fabric of the stadium. The club has fully embraced this project and I'd like to thank them and the stadium company for their support.
"We feel this is something, for the supporters, by the supporters, that will add both colour and personality to the stadium. It hopefully will be the first step towards making the stadium feel more like "home" for our terrific supporters. By using yellow and blue, and making reference to some of the more significant dates in the club's history, we hope supporters will view it very much as a celebration of all that is good about being an Oxford United supporter, particularly at this exciting stage of our history as we embark upon our return to the Football League."
United chairman Kelvin Thomas added: "The club has worked closely with OxVox and the fans on this project and it is a great way to have a permanent reminder of the club's great heritage. It will add colour as well as a sense of history to the stadium. We are very proud to have this unveiled and thank OxVox for their continued support. This season promises to be another exciting chapter in the story of Oxford United."
