Simple for Simon

Posted on: Thu 10 Jun 2010

New signing Simon Heslop joins the U's looking for a fresh start and to go places with his new club. The 23 year old midfielder joined from Barnsley yesterday and is excited about a new chapter in his career:

"This is where my career starts as far as I'm concerned. I never felt I was given a fair chance really at Barnsley so this will hopefully be the start of things. I don't hold any regrets and am grateful to everyone at Barnsley but this is a fresh start. I have been out on loan a lot of times but this is a full move and hopefully I can settle quickly and play my part here."

Simon was speaking to Yellow Player at the side of the pitch at the Kassam Stadium and was clearly looking forward to playing in front of the United fans:

"It's a lovely set up. I came to look around and was very impressed and I'm pleased to be a part of it."

Simon knows what to expect from the manager, having worked with him during a loan spell at Halifax two years ago. He admits that the chance to work with Chris Wilder again was a big pull:

"I know what Chris is all about. I really enjoyed playing under him while I was at Halifax so that was another big positive about coming to link up with him again."

After agreeing a three year deal Simon will begin to focus on the start of pre-season, which is now just three weeks away:

"I have just come back from my holiday and it's good to have got everything sorted. It's always playing in the back of your head until you get the contract signed so it's nice to get it settled and to be able to focus on the start of the season now. Now it's a case of working on fitness and following the programme so that I'm ready when we report back for pre-season."
