United can confirm the signing of goalkeeper Simon Eastwood from Huddersfield Town.
A twenty-year-old, 6'2" product of the Huddersfield youth system, Simon joins the club on a permanent basis after signing a two-year deal.
Called into first team contention at the age of just 16 during the 2005/6 season, making two appearances on the Huddersfield bench, Simon signed his first professional contract for Town alongside former United defender Shane Killock in 2007, while a loan move to then Blue Square Premier club Woking in November 2008 gave the Luton-born player his first taste of regular first team football.
A further loan spell with League Two side Bradford City began in July 2009, with Simon making twenty-eight starts in all competitions including twenty-two in the league for the former Premier League club. He returned to Huddersfield in January 2010 and became a valuable member of the squad throughout a successful second half of the season which saw the club reach the League One Play-Offs.
An England representative at both U18 and U19 levels, the highly rated stopper will provide valuable competition for current Player of the Year Ryan Clarke between the sticks.
Says manager Chris Wilder: "With Billy Turley moving on it was important that the club signed a second goalkeeper and we're pleased that Simon has decided to join us. At twenty he is only a young lad but he's hungry to do well and we're sure that he will prove a valuable asset to the club. Despite his age he comes here with experience of playing regularly in the Football League and we're sure that he will provide the competition necessary to ensure that the Goalkeeper position is hotly contested."
