Chairman Kelvin Thomas has been talking to Yellow Player as United prepare for the FA Trophy Quarter Final against Kidderminster. In a lengthy audio interview Kelvin discussed the task ahead of him, the importance of the Trophy, and the huge role that the fans have played for the club.

Psychologically, how important was it to go clear at the top of the table on Tuesday night?

"I think it was a big boost to everyone in and around the football club. I think what we realize now is that between now and the end of the season is going to be a rollercoaster. I think there will be ups and downs just like we experienced over seven days, from the down at Luton where we put in a solid performance but had the down at the end of the game, but then we come back and win two games and are back on top. I think we have to be ready for that but it is going to be exciting for all of us."

That roller coaster applies to the players and coaches, but how do the fans cope with such an exciting season?

"I think we have to be professional inside the club, but I think we do that anyway. I don't think we have got carried away with anything, all the ups and downs, and I think we are showing that the hard work with the players has paid off in what they are doing. For the fans I don't know; they are on the same journey as all of us. All I would say is to come out and support the team. Tuesday night was a perfect example.Chris made a really good point where he said afterwards that he thought the fans in the second half were better than the players! He really felt that the fans were willing the ball into the net. It was good to be kicking towards those fans in the Oxford Mail end and I think it helped. When the goal went in it was a huge relief and then we saw the game out. I think the fans played a big part in that win and they should never underestimate how important they are."

Having banned the 'P' word for promotion, is anyone allowed to use the 'W' word for Wembley with the Trophy ahead of us?

"Chris is the word police! I think we have to be positive and look at all of our successes in a realistic light and say that we have chances in both the league and the FA Trophy. I think we have to make sure we go after both of those chances. I think we have the squad to do it and I think the Kidderminster game is very exciting. It is the quarter final of a cup and we are two rounds away from Wembley. You can't ask for much more than that."

As the season heads for an exciting finale the crowds keep growing and growing and the atmosphere gets better each time….

"It was a rugged, tough performance on Tuesday but the fans were right behind it. I didn't think there was any frustration or panic, the ones that are here every week enjoyed going top and are saying 'you know what. I want to bring people to see this and experience these games'. The more numbers we have the greater the atmosphere and don't forget that a lot of these players are here because of the fans. We talked to players in the summer and said 'you are going to be playing in front of big crowds' and a lot of them chose to come here because of that. The fans recognize that I think.

"Those players have come in and worked hard together and everyone has bought in to Chris's way of thinking. We are a hard working football club. We aren't big time Charlies, we don't show off, we just go about our business. It was very flattering to read on the BBC website where a Luton fan said he was impressed that we had done our talking on the pitch. That is important to us. We still have a long way to go but we respect every club and every team. Hopefully we are starting to put pressure on a few clubs, which is something we have had for so long and people underestimate that. I think we are coping with that."

So finally, how are you coping personally with the pressure that comes with running a football club?

"As Chairman I do feel it, but there is a lot less pressure on you if you are top of the league than bottom. One thing I can say is that whatever else happens I know both Chris and I can sit down at the end of the season and say we have given it a go and worked as hard as we can."
