United have completed the signing of defender Rhys Day.

The 26 year old began his career at Manchester City and made 12 appearances for the Wales under 21 side while at Manie Road. He moved on to Mansfield Town in 2003 and made just over 100 appearances for the Stags before joining Aldershot, where he was captain and helped the Shots win promotion into the Football League.

Having been released at the end of the season Rhys was a free agent and joined United for their pre-season tour of Scotland last week, making an excellent impression against Morton last Saturday.

He joins the U's on a two year contract.

He told Yellow World:

"A week ago I wasn't sure where I was going to be but I was delighted to get the call from Oxford and to join up with them in Scotland. I must have done OK up there because they still wanted to sign me. I have had a couple of seasons at this level with Aldershot, captained them into the Football League and would love to be part of a side that does that again. There is something  going on here and I am looking to be a part of that."
