Burnell moves on

Posted on: Thu 02 Jul 2009

United have parted company with midfielder Joe Burnell who leaves the club by mutual consent.

The 28 year old former Bristol City, Wycombe Wanderers and Northampton Town midfielder made 21 starts for the club after joining last summer, scoring once, but was unable to find a regular place under Chris Wilder and spent the later stages of the season on trial at Exeter City.

Joe wished the club well as he left:

"I've enjoyed my time at the club and really hope they do well and win promotion this year. The Chairman and Manager have turned things around and they have treated me very professionally throughout. Things didn't work out for me at Oxford but there's a new challenge for me out there and I wish the club the best of luck for the future."
