United remain unbeaten on the road after their second successive 0-0 draw. As with the opener at Burton this was a more open game than the scoreline would suggest but United couldn't quite find the killer touch despite several clear chances, especially in the second half.

United, all in white, made the first opening as Green slid in and robbed the hesitant Nikki Bull as the keeper came out. Green's cut back was slammed into the safety of the crowd by a covering defender but it got the amazing away fans to their feet and roaring their team on from the very start. The covering defender that time was Alan Bennett and his participation only lasted six minutes before a hamstring pull ended his afternoon, but on nine minutes a sad sight for United fans came as Damian Batt was clattered by Kevin Betsy for the second time in the game and left the pitch in obvious distress.

Moments earlier Matt Phillips had squandered a perfect opening by slicing the ball wide of an empty net for The Chairboys, and the greater share of possession was with the home side for much of the opening quarter with Bloomfield poking a twentieth minute effort wide from six yards from a dangerous free kick.

The hard running Green was bundled over inside the area on 23 but  United's penalty claims were swiftly waved away by ref Taylor, then a Heslop free kick from 25 yards missed by inches as the U's started to impose themselves on the game for the first time. Ben Purkiss, on for a debut in place of Batt, settled well and looked solid at right back and after a slightly nervous start United were coming on strong. Constable glanced a Heslop free kick wide on 35 and despite conceding ground at times United were good value for a draw at the break.

They were about half a centimetrre from taking the lead 44 seconds into the second half. A superbly weighted through ball from Midson sent Green racing clear with Dave Winfield chasing like a man in concrete boots. Green reached the edge of the box then let fly with a ferocious effort which beat the keeper but bounced back off the bar. Heslop following up must have been close with his driven shot as well.

United now had the bit well and truly between their teeth and on 49 Bull made an outstanding save as Constable thrashed in another effort from ten yards. A note of caution though: against Bury the previous week United had enjoyed similar possession then been caught on the break and on 54 should have been punished as Kevin Betsy ran free but chipped his effort over the bar as well as the reaching Clarke's fingertips.

It was a great game to watch now and just before the hour Bull atoned for a dreadful mistake with a brilliant save to deny United again. The keeper's bowl out was woefully short and Constable and Hall seized on it to allow Constable to cut in from the left edge of the area. His thunderous right footed effort was arrowing in to the top right hand corner until Bull stretched out a hand and managed to get the slightest deflection to tip the ball on to the bar once again.

The ball just would not go in and on 62 United carved the home defence to pieces to create another great chance. This time Constable was the creator with a delicate ball through for the flying Green once more. This time Bull was off his line smartly and down at the striker's feet just as he tried to lift it over him. The ball span off Bull for a corner; surely a goal was coming?

It might have come on 68 as Hall ghosted in but nodded a deep cross just wide of the mark, but a frantic twenty minute spell had created opportunities but no opener.

The closing stages saw both sides tighten up but United might still have won it on 89 as Midson headed a Purkiss cross wide from eight yards, while in the fifth of four added minutes Midson nodded a deep Jake Wright free kick back across goal only to see the ball trickle an inch wide of the far post. Somehow  it was honours even from a fast paced and very well contested game.

When the points are totted up at the end of the season this will be a good one to have earned. The first win is not far away based on this performance.
