The Verdict

Posted on: Mon 30 Aug 2010

Chris Wilder was typically honest in his assessment after the 0-0 draw with Accrington on Saturday. The United manager saw his side improve in the second half but unable to find that elusive first loeague win of the season, and pulled no punches in his Yellow Player answers:

"I said it was a ridiculous game last week because I thought we should have won comfortably, and I think it still is because we deserved to lose this week. We were second best all over the pitch, didn't win enough battles and were sloppy in possession. Accrington deserved to win, no doubt about it. I am happy to have got a point out of the game, but saying that we have had four games now and definitely should have won two of those so we will stick in there.

"We looked very leggy and second to the ball but there are no excuses because Accrington played a day later than us so the players can't really chuck that one at me. We need to improve, and we will. It is a long season and we have to keep brave and keep positive. We just have to make sure we are right and that we are ready for the next game.

"I scratch my head but sometimes you just have to swallow days like these. You have to give the lads a little bit of credit because we didn't get beat, but we werent good enough at all to get any sort of result. Now we just need to rest ourselves up because we are better than that, everybody knows that. The crowd stayed with us and drove us on, and any criticism you just have to take because the players are pretty eager to take the pats on the back when we do well. But so far, in most of the games we've had we've played pretty well."
