The Verdict
Frustration was the name of the game for Chris Wilder as his United team left The Lamb Ground with only a point to show for their efforts against Tamworth on Sunday.
The U's were very much in control of the game come the interval and can count themselves unlucky not to have found the back of the net, but with the home side knuckling down after the break the Yellows struggled to find a way through a resolute Tamworth defence.
Speaking to Yellow Player after the final whistle, Chris had the following thoughts to give on the afternoon's events:
"I thought that they started very well but that for half an hour after that we were excellent. We created chances and drove the game forward, and frankly their keeper has made some magnificent saves to keep us out. We were right on top going into half-time, there's no doubt about it, and we should have been ahead by possibly two or three. In the second half we never really got Sam Deering on the ball and they counteracted that by dropping somebody in on him, and in truth we maybe didn't do enough to win the game come the end.
"I think at times we need to relax a little bit more than we have been recently, which I think that we managed to do in the first half, and if we get our reward during that period then I think that we go on to win the game pretty comfortably. We're all frustrated myself included and there were some silly decisions by one or two, but these things happen in the heat of a battle when players are under pressure. We care about the situation that we're in and that certainly hasn't changed.
"It's a time now to go again. We can't feel sorry for ourselves just because we haven't picked up the win that we may have wanted, but it's tight where we are and it's not as though we're chasing and chasing like we were last season. The players need to take on board what we're trying to do just a little bit more, and most of all everybody needs to have a little more belief."
