Chris looks forward to Luton clash
Manager Chris Wilder goes into tonight's game at Luton looking for his players to react positively to what is sure to be a great occasion. With 1,500 United fans following their team there should be the same sort of atmosphere that made The U's 2-0 win over the Hatters such a memorable occasion back in early September.
Chris told Yellow Player:
"The players have put themselves in the position to make this sort of night happen. We had a fantastic game against them here, a game that had everything; some good some not so good. But it was a proper football match and I'm sure that Tuesday night will be the same."
United are top of the table again, but Chris is keeping his feet firmly on the ground as ever:
"We have put ourselves in a great position but there are plenty of twists and turns ahead. I never went along with people who were getting carried away in September and October. Leagues aren't won then. We had a good start but never got carried away. Of course we'd love to be ten points clear but fair play to the other teams. To win ten out of eleven is a fantastic achievement by York but I can't affect that. Stevenage's results have been solid but I can't do anything about that either. All we can do is affect our own results. We can't look back and see where we might have picked up more points, we just have to look forward to what's coming up. Luton is a big game for both clubs but we will approach it the right way. We are top of the league going into the match and want it to stay that way."
United will be without top scorer James Constable, but have a ready made replacement in Jack Midson:
"In a nine month season you get all conditions, refereeing decisions, players on top of their game or having a dip, injuries, games being called off and players getting suspended. James Constablewill be a big miss for us, and I think he was desperately unlucky to get booked on Saturday. It was an honest ball but there had been seven fouls on him by then. He knows that sometimes dissent is not a good thing to get booked for, but it wasn't that on Saturday and I thought he was unlucky. But that opens the door for Jack who has been great for us and he will come in and I'm sure he will give everything for us again.
"It is going to be a great atmosphere and provided the referee makes the right decisions and is consistent, the two teams get on with playing football and the two sets of fans keep shouting their team forward for the whole ninety minutes I'm sure we will have a fantastic occasion."
