Patto on Histon
Darren Patterson sends his team out at Histon on Saturday looking to carry on where they left off in the FA Cup on Tuesday night. It will be a tough test against a side that has won six games on the trot, but the United boss is looking forward to it eagerly:
"It's going to be a very different type of game but one we're looking forward to again. We want to continue the level of performance, endeavour and commitment, we know we will have to do that on Saturday. The big thing for me is bravery. We need to compete because Histon are a good side but very physical and they depend on set plays a lot. We need to make sure we combat that but we also need to be brave in possession. On Tuesday night we had 28 crosses, which is phenomenal, and shows how much we go for it away from home."
Star man on Tuesday was Sam Deering, and his versatility gives United a different sort of attacking option:
"He is like one of those tablets that you put into water and it fizzes away. He is still only seventeen and as you see with James Clarke you have to give youngsters a break every now and again, but I don't have that worry with him right now. He trains every day like he plays, and having seen him play 'in the hole' behind the strikers it is a massive bonus to have him around and able to do that. The only person I've seen able to do that is the boy Woolford who was at York last season and went for big money to Scunthorpe. We have tried that formation and it hasn't worked but I think we now have a player who can play in that role."
It is very much a squad game though, and Darren hinted at possible changes in the starting eleven:
"I thought we had the strongest bench of the season there on Tuesday. It enables me to make changes if I need to because I think we need to make selections for each side we play against, and this will be a very different game."
