Healthy Living

Posted on: Wed 20 Aug 2008

Our Healthy living programme has been a major success, with our Community department giving every primary school in Oxford the chance to join this great course.

Coaches have been out visiting schools and talking to students about the importance of exercise, diet and a healthy lifestyle. A mixture of talks, workshops and practical examples has proved a great success, as Community Officer Peter Rhoades-Brown said:

"It has been very rewarding to be part of this scheme and to visit all of the schools and meet the children. They have been so enthusiastic and really listened to what the coaches have told them about eating properly and getting regular exercise. I'd like to thank the Football Foundation for their continued support for the scheme, something which will allow us to help spread the word even more over the next twelve months."

The Football Foundation has granted funding for this project, providing £120,000 over three years, and has pledged support for the second year of the scheme.

Lynn Knapp, Head teacher at Windmill School has been very pleased with the scheme so far:

"It has been great to be involved. The coaches are very knowledgeable and informative and are really getting the message across to the youngsters at an age when it can make such a difference."
