WILSON WAITS

Posted on: Tue 07 Feb 2012

If Saturday's postponement was frustrating for fans imagine how it felt for new signings Scott Rendell and Mark Wilson. The pair, who joined on deadline day until the end of the season, were due to be involved for the first time when United took on Barnet, but instead will have to wait until this Saturday instead. Experienced midfielder Mark now stands by for a debut at Accrington this weekend.

Mark has trained with the U's for a couple of weeks now and having also watched the second-half fightback at Burton in their last outing he knows there is plenty of quality in the United squad:

"There were a lot of positives that afternoon." he told Yellow Player " I thought Oxford deserved to win the game on their second half performance. I thought the Gaffer was astute as well. Having spoken to him he wants to play football but he also wants to win football games and he is willing to adapt and change things in and around what his philosophy is. That is important to me and he is someone I can learn from. And then obviously there are some very talented players here as well.

" You have the experience of Michael Duberry, Alfie Potter scored a good goal, you have the likes of Peter Leven and there are some very good players. I think we can push on and get out of this league and there is definitely a good set of players to do that with.

The eloquent midfielder speaks so well and so passionately about the game that a future in management must surely beckon?

"I am a student of the game and have always wanted to learn and to improve as a player. If that leads into something else then great. But I feel I have made a choice based on that; I am here to learn and here to improve as a player."

There is a typically thoughtful answer to the question of what the United fans can expect?

"I always like to let them make their own judgement. Rather than paint a picture it is nice to come in with a blank canvas and people can draw their own conclusions and make their own judgements on me as a player when I play out there."

Always whole hearted, Mark is usually someone who plays with a smile and with his heart on his sleeve:

"I always enjoy it. I do love playing football. It is my biggest passion and I will give it everything I have got. I have always been willing to work as hard as I can on and off the pitch to help improve the team and the club in any way I can."
