U's announce further pre-season details

Oxford United are pleased to announce further details for this summer’s pre-season training camp in Spain.

The U’s will be flying out to the La Cala area near Malaga on 10th July, staying for a week and looking to play two games during that time.

La Cala is located in the Sierra de Mijas, 20 minutes from Marbella and 30 minutes from Malaga airport on the Costa del Sol. It boasts outstanding training facilities which have previously been used by the England under 21 side, Anderlecht and Porto.

Following last season’s successful trip to Austria the club are hoping to see the Yellow Army on tour once again, but respectfully ask that fans respect the players privacy- bookings should not be made at La Cala itself, although the area has a massive range of hotels easily available.

Jonty Castle, Head of Football Logistics said:

“Austria was the start of so much for this season and the fans who went out there were a credit to the club. The players worked extremely hard during that week and we believe that La Cala will offer outstanding facilities this year.

“Last year brought the club and supporters together and there will be opportunities to do that again.

“Ideally there will be a game on the Tuesday night at the MPFS training centre in Marbella, and another on the Friday evening at La Cala. On the Wednesday we will hold an opening training session for fans to come and watch, and then they are welcome to join us for the Chairman’s Barbecue that evening. We’ve added another event as well this year- a Quiz night on the Thursday.

“All we would ask is that the fans help us out a little: there will be plenty of time to join us and meet the players but also times when the squad will be working hard and need to be left alone to do that. We are confident that we can get the mix right again to get the players sharp for the season and also build that bond between the club and fans even further.”

The opposition for the two games will be announced over the next few weeks.
