Wright, Rose and Crocombe agree new deals as United release retained list

Full details of Oxford United's retained list

Oxford United are pleased to announce that Jake Wright, Danny Rose and Max Crocombe have joined Joe Skarz in agreeing new deals with the club, while three highly rated local youngsters have been offered new extended contracts. At the same time six players have been informed that they will not be offered new deals.

Skipper Wright has agreed a new two year deal with the club. Jake has been an integral part of the side since signing in 2009, making well over 200 appearances and skippering the side in the vast majority of those matches.

Head Coach Michael Appleton said:

“Jake is a really good player as well as being a natural leader, on and off the pitch. People maybe don’t see what an important role he plays behind the scenes but he has the respect of everyone at the club as well as the players around him and we are very happy that he has committed his future here. He is a terrific defender, gives us balance because he is naturally left sided, and I am sure he will be an important player again for us next season.”

The club has taken up a one-year extension in Rose’s contract, while a similar two-year extension has been taken up on goalkeeper Crocombe’s contract. They join Skarz in next season’s squad after the left-back agreed a three year deal last week.

The club are still in talks with goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown as well as Andy Whing who is discussing a new role at the club, although he will not be offered a new playing contract.

At the same time United have informed Jon Meades, Will Hoskins, John Campbell, Josh Shama, Matt Bevans, and Jeremy Balmy that they will not be offered new contracts.

Head Coach Michael Appleton said:

“Danny Rose has shown a fantastic attitude and gives us options in midfield, and Max impressed everyone during his loan at Nuneaton this season. We have also offered Sam Long, Aidan Hawtin and Sam Humphreys longer contracts and that can only be good news for the future of the football club.

“We would also like to thank all of the lads who have been released for their hard work and efforts and wish them well for the future.”
