Vassell Hungry For Success

27 March 2015

New signing hoping to impress

United can call on the services of new striker Kyle Vassell for the first time tomorrow as they welcome Carlisle United to the Kassam Stadium. The 22-year-old forward joined on loan from Peterborough yesterday and is looking forward to being part of a United squad looking to pull clear of the Cumbrians in League 2.

“I’ve never played at this level but all I know is that I have a great opportunity here and hopefully I can help the club out as much as they can help me” Kyle told Yellow Player.” I played against Carlisle this season in the FA Cup so I know it’s a big game but that appealed to me because I do love a challenge and I knew there was going to be something to play for in every game.

“If we come out the better end of it then that will help my career as well. It’s nothing I’m afraid of, there’s nothing that I am worried about. I think I can come in here and help the club and we can definitely beat the drop. There are a lot of big games but if I get my chance to play then hopefully I can do well.”

Kyle earned his move to Peterborough with a string of goals at Bishop’s Stortford after dropping out of league football as a youngster. That serves as motivation for a young man who is clearly hungry to do well for the U’s.

“I think that hunger comes from the harsh reality of having had to drop into non-league after being released as a kid. If you haven’t got hunger then getting back out of non-league is hard- if you don’t have that desire to reach the top then you might as well not even bother.  You have to keep your standards high and believe in yourself but most importantly you have to be hungry.

“I think that’s what it is. I am driven and desperate to do well. I didn’t have to come here to Oxford but I wanted to because I really do want to come in, enjoy my football and hopefully get some goals. I’m hoping I get the opportunity to do that against Carlisle on Saturday.

Saturday’s game is Military Day with lots of activity around the ground ahead of kick off. Book your place and support the U’s by calling 01865 337533 or visiting www.oufctickets.co.uk
