U's Get Wise For Morecambe

11 February 2016

Oxford United prepare to take on Morecambe in Sky Bet league 2

Oxford United head for Morecambe on Saturday looking to stay on track at the top of the table. The third-placed U’s looked destined for all three points at home to Mansfield on Tuesday but were denied by a last minute equaliser for the Stags as they drew 2-2.

“We were disappointed to draw in the end” First Team Coach Chris Allen told Yellow Player HD earlier today. “I think that goes to show how far we’ve come though.

“We’re not hiding what we’re trying to achieve this season and we looked like we were on target to win the game so we were frustrated, but there is no blame culture, we’re all in this together and all taking responsibility. We got a point, so now we look to get three more on Saturday at Morecambe and if we do that then we are still well on course for our targets.”

“The manager always says that we look after ourselves and not worry about what other teams are doing. Provided we keep doing that then things will look after themselves.”

As a former United winger, Chris was appreciative of the way that loan winger Zeli Ismail was able to deliver crosses on Tuesday night, with one pass leading to Danny Hylton’s second goal.

“He’s got a bit of trick as well” Chris said “He whipped in a couple of good crosses and has good delivery. If he keeps doing that then I’m pretty sure the forwards will enjoy that!”

Ismail comes into contention for a starting place for United who have no new injury worries. The two sides drew 0-0 at the Kassam Stadium earlier in the season  and United travel north to the Globe Arena three games into a busy run of matches.  However, Chris believes that this stage of the season , games can’t come round quickly enough.

“I think any player would agree that they’d rather play than train, and I think we have six weeks now of Saturday, Tuesday games. Any player would enjoy that. It means we can get a good amount of games out of the way, get a rhythm going and hopefully get maximum points out of it.”
