Run the Vitality Oxford Half Marathon for the Oxford United Community Trust

20 May 2016

First 25 to register and raise £100 will run for free

Now is the time to register to join the Oxford United team in the Vitality Oxford half marathon.

The half marathon will take runners through the beautiful streets of our historic city and for the first time ever you can run the event as part of the official Oxford United team - the Yellow Army - and help the Community Trust at the same time. All you need to do to register is choose the Oxford United Community Trust as your charity of choice when registering.

The first 25 people to raise £100 for the Oxford United Community Trust by setting yourself up as a fundraiser for us on our JustGiving page will run for FREE.

Register with the Oxford United team and you will also receive:

• Running and well-being advice from Andrew Proctor and the club’s sports science team
• Your name and race time in a match programme
• Exclusive pre-race emails from the club
• Post-run treatment and advice from our medical team
• Be among the first 25 to raise £100 and we’ll pay your entry fee
• Raise £500 and receive a FREE official Oxford United running top
• Raise £1,000 and you will be invited to a reception on a first team matchday where you can meet Darryl Eales, Michael Appleton and have a tour behind the scenes at the Kassam Stadium

Community Trust Operations Director Caroline Robbins said:
“We are very excited about the half marathon and it is a fantastic way to have a bit of fun, get everyone involved and hopefully raise funds for the Trust. The aim is to turn the streets of Oxford yellow and for fans to run or walk the course in yellow shirts. It’s not all about racing and pushing yourself to the limit; plenty of the Oxford United staff will be running or walking the course to be part of what should be an amazing day.

“The players will be around on the day to cheer everyone on and there’s a Schools Challenge Competition as well which schools across Oxfordshire will be receiving details about soon.

“It should be a great day for families, and a great day for the whole of Oxford.”

The Community Trust does not believe it’s right that the life expectancy of people living in Blackbird Leys, Oxford, is 14 years less than those living in North Oxford. Instead we believe everyone should be supported to live an active, healthy and happy life. We don’t believe that the aspirations of young people living in Bretch Hill, Banbury, should be limited by poor educational attainment levels, rather that every young person should be supported to explore their passions and follow their dream. We don’t believe that older people right across Oxfordshire should increasingly face social isolation and loneliness; we want everyone to feel like an important part of their community so they never stop having fun and making friends. Oxford United Community Trust is committed to tackling these issues but we need your support to do it. We know we can, we’ve proved we can, but it takes amazing people like you to fundraise and donate so we can keep going.
