AJ George scores three as United beat Nike Academy 3-2
AJ George scored all three Oxford United goals as the under-21 side beat Nike Academy 3-2 at St Georges Park, Burton, yesterday afternoon.United fielded a young side but they started the game well and two strikes from George gave the U's a 2-0 half-time lead.
Nike came back strongly after the break and the U's found themselves pegged back to 2-2 before a late goal from George earned Oxford a hard-fought win.
Coach Chrissy Allen told us:
"It was a scrappy, bitty game with not too many chances for either side. However, it gave us the opportunity to try out a few of the youngsters and they acquitted themselves well against a well-drilled Nike side.
"AJ took his goals well and it was very pleasing to see him get his hat-trick although we lost concentration a little bit after the break and that's something to learn from."
