Oxford United Team Up With Stewart Donald and Bridle

2 July 2015

Club Statement on two new developments

Oxford United today announces details of two significant off the field developments that will keep the club on the upward trajectory it has established over the past 12 months.

Firstly, lifelong Oxford United supporter and leading local businessman, Stewart Donald, will acquire a 10 per cent share in the near future. Mr Donald and his family have made a number of major financial contributions to Oxford United over the years, most recently a very generous donation to the Community Trust.

Mr Donald will not be joining the board of directors, and Darryl Eales, club chairman, remains the largest single shareholder and in control of the club. Mr Donald shares the chairman's ambition to bring sustained success on the pitch, while at the same time making the club a pioneering force for positive change in the local community.

Darryl Eales said: "Stewart and I have been talking for some time and share a common vision for the club, especially in building success both on the pitch and in the community. I am delighted that we will continue to build a strong relationship and that his passion and knowledge will be available to help drive the club forward."

Indicative of the commitment Stewart Donald brings, his company Bridle Insurance has agreed a major sponsorship package with the club. The deal sees Bridle become the official Oxford United Academy and Women’s Super League sponsors, as well as the official partner for the upcoming first team pre-season tour of Austria.

Commenting on both developments, Mark Ashton, CEO for Oxford United, said: “I am delighted to see both Stewart Donald and Bridle engage with the club. It is clear Stewart is extremely passionate about Oxford United, and having an investor in the club who has such great links with the local business community can only be a positive thing. Both Darryl and myself, and everyone at the football club, are thrilled to have Stewart, and Bridle Insurance, on board.”

Mr Donald said: “Darryl and I have had a number of very positive conversations since his takeover which has resulted in these developments. I’m thrilled at the prospect of becoming a shareholder in Oxford United and I look forward to playing my part in helping the club move forward. It will also be great for me personally to see Bridle back involved with the club.”
