Head Coach looks for the U's to strike back against the Bantams

Oxford United look to do what no other League 1 side has done this season as they try to become the first side to beat Bradford City this season. The unbeaten Bantams come to Grenoble Road on Saturday after 12 unbeaten games, but Head Coach Michael Appleton believes his side are in the right frame of mind to beat Stuart McCall’s side on Saturday.

“I can see why they are unbeaten” Michael told Yellow Player HD. “They are a very good side. They can mix it up, they can play in to the striker, and their midfield is very talented so I can see why they are unbeaten because they have a good mix and are clearly very hard to beat. From what I have seen so far I expect them to be up there for the rest of the season so we know we have a tough test but I think it is one that our players will probably relish.

“It was important to try and move into the Bradford game with a positive and the second half against Wimbledon last Sunday was much better and we were much more like ourselves; certainly a bit more threatening, but the damage had already been done. You have days like that sometimes: you just have to try and make sure that they are few and far between.”

United sit just three points outside the play-offs, but with such a tight division United’s Head Coach believes that his side are more than capable of beating anyone:

“I expect the  league to be tight all season and you only have to look at some of the results last Saturday to see how close it is. If you don’t show everyone in the division the respect they deserve then you are probably going to end up with a slap in the face” he said.

Joe Skarz misses out with a shoulder problem while Appleton will also wait  to check that influential midfielder Liam Sercombe is available

“Liam Sercombe was carrying a little bit of a groin strain earlier in the week  but should be back in training and OK to play” he said. “Skarzy has a problem with the joint in his shoulder and we expect it to be two to three weeks.”
