First Team Coach looks ahead to Saturday's Yellow Army Day
Oxford United welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday looking to build on a good run of form at home that has seen them go five games unbeaten. It’s a big game for both sides. Wycombe have started the season strongly and will bring over 1,200 fans while the U’s are calling for their own fans to come along and get behind them for Yellow Army Day.
“I am sure our fans will play a huge part” First team coach Derek Fazackerley told Yellow Player today. “They have given us great support all season – they travel away in amazing numbers really . It is those people you want to put on a performance for and reward them with results.
“So far we haven’t done that consistently. Generally our home form has been good. They have been entertaining games and we are unbeaten in five home games I believe. We will be looking to maintain that and get another win on Saturday. Wycombe are flying at the minute and have started the season really well so hopefully there will be a great atmosphere at the stadium for the game” Derek added.
The former England Coach believes that United have a point to prove after defeat in the final minute at Carlisle on Saturday.
“It was a big disappointment, especially after the way we played in the first half” he said, “but when you are only a goal up you can never relax because you haven’t put the game to bed.
“That was the biggest disappointment last week, certainly from my point of view, that we only came in at half time one goal up. But we have put that game behind us now and are looking forward to a big game against Wycombe on Saturday. I think we might have earned one or two more points this season but I do think our performances are starting to come together and we have plenty to play for still.”
“It is a very competitive league, like all of them in England, and it is all about being organised, trying to play the right way, which we are trying to do here, and entertaining the public. If we get all those three things right then I don’t think we will be all that far off by the end of the season.
“They are a good group of players to work with and hopefully we can push on from here and make a push towards the play-off positions”.
