Michael Appleton's thoughts after United's win at Bristol City
United manager Michae Appleton was in buoyant mood last night after Oxford came back from conceding an early goal to beat Bristol City in the Capital One Cup first round.The U's went behind after just 70 seconds, but second-half goals from striker Carlton Morris - his first senior goal - and substitute Danny Hylton turned the game on its head and ensured that it's Oxford United who will be in tonight's second round draw.
"Right from the third minute (because the first couple of minutes didn’t go to plan) I thought we passed the ball really well," Appleton told Yellow Player.
"I thought we looked a real threat on the counter attack and I thought we were pretty much in control of the game for long periods."
Appleton was especially pleased to see his two strikers get on the scoresheet:
"I’m delighted for them. Carlton did ever so well - he worked his socks off - and he got his reward with the goal and he could have had one or two more with half chances and I’m delighted for Danny because I ask my players to make an impact coming off the bench and he’s obviously made an impact."
