Defender to play in FA Cup tie as Jakubiak loan ends

Oxford United have been boosted ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup First round tie at Grimsby with the news that Charlton Athletic have given permission for on-loan defender Tareiq Holmes-Dennis to play in the game.

The 19-year-old left back has made an instant impression in his first four games for the U’s and the clubs have agreed that he can play at Blundell Park on Saturday.

Fellow loanees Tyrone Barnett and Joe Riley are also eligible for the game although goalkeeper George Long is ineligible under the terms of his loan: Max Crocombe is expected to return to the squad in his absence. Danny Hylton misses the game through suspension.

Meanwhile Alex Jakubiak’s loan spell at Oxford United has ended after the forward was recalled by Watford.

The Scottish under 21 international made two starts and eight substitute appearances for the U’s, scoring his only goal in the 3-3 draw with Dagenham and Redbridge. Head Coach Michael Appleton thanked Alex for his efforts at United:

“First of all I want to thank Watford for letting him come here on loan. He has found it hard to get games over the last few weeks and we talked to Watford and the player himself and everyone agreed that the best thing for him right now is to be back at Vicarage Road.

“Alex has tons of ability and is keen to learn and we have enjoyed working with him here and wish him well for the future.”
