Striker Will Goodwin got off the mark for Oxford United last night with a late header to open his account for the U’s after joining fron Cheltenham Town.
But an injury-time equaliser for Northampton took the gloss off that personal milestone for Will, as he told iFollow after the game:
“It was a bit of a bitter sweet one to concede that late goal but I was personally happy to get my first goal, especially at home. To get it at that end in front of the home fans was a special moment
“I think we did enough to win the game. Watching from the sides for most part of it I thought we were dominating the game. We certainly never looked like losing. We said that after the game but we also know that when you do dominate then you need to take all three points away from it, especially in the position we are in.
“That’s five draws in six games, and unbeaten in that run, but in quite a few of them we should have got three points. Hopefully in the upcoming games we can change that, starting on Saturday against Orient.
“As a sub I just wanted to make an impact. You have to be ready and when you come on you have to try to make the difference. That’s what the Gaffer told us to do and that’s what you always want to do. There is great competition for places and we all want to be starting; that’s only going to happen if you come off the bench and do well..
“It’s like a monkey off my back now to get that first goal. It takes the pressure off and hopefully there are a few more to come. We are back home again on Saturday and it’s got to be three points this time.”
